Taking Action to improve Mental Health
The health and well-being service was set up to meet the needs of black and minority ethnic individuals suffering from mild to mderate mental health issues such as anxiety or depression. The service is culturally sensitive and takes into account language and religious needs.
It is designed to promote and deliver mental wellbeing for Minority and Vulnerable Communities offering one to one support and referring into group sessions. The service is open and accessible to individuals from minority and vulnerable groups, Black and Minority Ethnic, Disabilities, Sexual Orientation, Homeless, covering all genders, age and religious groups. Through the service we conduct an initial well-being assessment using the STAR recovery Model.
The STAR recovery model is a tool that can be used by people with mental health needs to help them think about where they are in terms of recovery and the progress they are making.
The Recovery Star focuses on the ten core areas that have been found to be critical to recovery:
• Managing mental health • Relationships
• Self-care • Addictive behaviour
• Living skills • Responsibilities
• Social networks • Identity and self-esteem
• Work • Trust and hope
The STAR ‘recovery model’ facilitated during the Wellbeing session is culturally sensitive and responsive to the community.
The service is accessible through your GP, any health professional or you can alternatively refer yourself via email: bme.service@pathwayscic.co.uk or you can call 01270 617 685
