Downsizing is never easy and always has consequences. Responsible downsizing is not only about staff leaving the organisation, but also fundamentally about how those that stay are supported. Pathways offers support to the public and private sector to help them to downsize while minimising the impact on employees and their local communities. Pathways helps organisations downsize whilst taking into consideration the impact that losing staff has on those people who remain which can be negative and possibly have longer-lasting effects.

During organisational changes such as downsizing, there is a risk that managers implementing the restructure who are unsupported or have not received appropriate training to deal with the ‘emotional journey’ that both the surviving organisation and individuals are likely to encounter, will themselves suffer emotionally, leading to increased sickness absenteeism and reduced efficiency within the work place.

There is also recognition that the way in which managers deal with downsizing has a decisive effect on those left behind impacting on the workload, morale and commitment amongst those still working for the organisation.

Pathways can offer change management programmes to managers who have to deal with downsizing. This can be provided in a course basis or on a one to one consultancy basis. Programmes can be designed to meet individual organisational requirements
