Pathways Community Interest Company is working in partnership with Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust to deliver Individual Placement and Support (IPS), a new way of supporting people who face multiple barriers to help them access and retain paid employment.
These individuals are often in receipt of a care package predominately through Mental health services Community Mental Health Team's although some people may still be in hospital, due to their condition they are consequently further removed from the labour market. It has been identified that this has a long term negative effect on these individuals sustaining and maintaining their health condition. By using IPS, employment is looked at within their care package people and individuals are encouraged to gain employment as part of their recovery and are supported with all their issues while in employment as opposed to before entering employment, any issues identified are worked through with their employment officer to ensure employment is sustained and long term health is managed affectively.
As of August 2011, through the IPS service, 4 people have moved into employment, 3 people are in the process of becoming self employed and 4 people are currently in voluntary work and are actively seeking employment, applying for appropriate jobs and attending interviews.
